Sawmill Pkwy. Project Hits Funding Snag
DELAWARE (Ken Hines) -- A major road project has hit a snag as city and county officials decide how to divvy up the bill.
The proposed project would extend Sawmill Pkwy. to the city of Delaware in an effort to alleviate traffic from busy feeders such as I-71 and US-23.
Sawmill Pkwy. -- which currently ends at Hyatts Road -- would stretch to US-42 if the project is completed.
Before work can begin, however, the issue of funding needs to be decided by city and county officials, who are offering very different payment proposals.
Delaware city officials are offering to pay 25 percent of the project's costs, while their county counterparts want the bill split in half.
City officials have also offered to assist in the expansion of a West Side industrial park.
Representatives from both sides describe their respective offers as the beginning of the negotiation process.
