Proposed Hilliard Apartments Causing Traffic Concerns

HILLIARD (Jen French/Ken Hines) -- City officials hope a new apartment complex will attract young professionals and more revenue, but area residents are concerned it will cause a traffic bottleneck in their neighborhood.

If approved by the Hilliard City Council, the 4 story, 181 unit Landmark Lofts will be built off of Cemetery Road and Luxair Dr.

The approval of the complex would force owners of the Starliner Diner to relocate their restaurant. City officials told ABC 6/FOX 28 the owner and developer have been working together in find common ground.

Some area businesses, including RJ Buoni Painting, aren't opposed to development, but think the proposed structure is too big for their neighborhood, and would lead to heavy traffic.

A study conducted by city engineers, however, concluded the area's street should be able to handle more cars.

City Council members are scheduled to meet Monday to discuss the apartment plans further.
