Anti-Right to Work Ads to Air in Columbus

COLUMBUS (Dana Jay) -- The group that has placed billboards around the city drawing a line between communism and Right to Work laws has begun a television ad campaign.

The strike by Keep Ohio’s Heritage is preemptive. The billboards went up before legislation was introduced in the Ohio House on May 1.

A coalition continues to gather signatures to put a Right to Work amendment to the Ohio Constitution before voters.  It may not appear on the ballot until 2014.

In the television ads, which have been purchased to run during newscasts on ABC 6/FOX 28, a man that appears to be part of a news organization tells viewers the Right to Work measures are “meant to kill unions and worker protection.”

Keep Ohio’s Heritage shares a treasurer with the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 18 based in Cleveland.

The Fraternal Order of Police of Ohio has begun a separate campaign.  More than 30,000 mailers meant to educate workers about the need to “Stop Right to Work” were sent out last week.

“I think all of us in this movement against so-called Right to Work felt a need to start to get out in front of it and start talking to members, because the slogan is catching,” Fraternal Order of Police President Jay  McDonald said.
