Suspect Sought in Fatal Linden Park Shooting
COLUMBUS (Derek Drake) -- A man was fatally shot near Linden Park on Thursday afternoon.
The Columbus Division of Police received a call from someone at Kipp Journey Academy, located at 1406 Myrtle Ave. just before 1:45 p.m.
Police say the victim, 19-year-old Andrew Davis, suffered a gunshot wound to the neck and was found on the ground in front of the academy. He was taken to Riverside Methodist Hospital where he died from his injuries.
According to police the shooting occurred in front of the school. Officers stopped an individual walking away from the school, towards the basketball courts at Linden Park, and are currently questioning him. It is unknown at this time, that person's connection to the shooting.
Extra officers were requested to assist in controlling a large crowd that had gathered at the scene.
People who live in the area said they are afraid to let their children play outside in the neighborhood because of recent violence.
Jody Tillman heard the shots fired.
“I was walking to the park and it happened so fast. Five shots and I said man down, man down. It happened just like that,” Tillman said.
Corey Miller, also in the area at the time the shooting said, “It is scary out here. People are doing crazy stuff. Why do you got to shoot?”
