Chillicothe Cop Falls Asleep Behind Wheel, Crashes

CHILLICOTHE (Carol Luper/Ken Hines) -- A police officer is under investigation after admitting to falling asleep behind the wheel of his cruiser, then crashing into three cars early Tuesday morning.

Terry Brown told a fellow officer he fell asleep while driving at approximately 5 a.m., according to a department accident report.

Brown's cruiser struck Michael Kraft's two cars and drove the vehicles on to the grass in front of his apartment. A neighbor's Jeep was also damaged.

Kraft said he was surprised the officer who responded to the crash did not conduct a more thorough investigation.

"No sobriety check. The sergeant did take photos, [but] no measurements to calculate how fast he was going or anything like that."

Chillicothe police spokesperson Bud Lytle said the crash is the subject of an investigation, which may lead to disciplinary action against Brown.
