Woman Charged with Neglect After Abandoning Dog in Galloway
COLUMBUS (Tom Sussi/Ken Hines) -- A woman accused of abandoning her family’s dog in a vacant house was charged with three misdemeanors in Franklin County Municipal Court on Tuesday.
Tomia Collins was charged with animal abandonment plus two counts of animal neglect. The crimes carry a maximum sentence of 90 days in jail and a $750 fine.
ABC 6/FOX 28 Investigators first reported the alleged abuse in mid-June, when it was discovered that the dog was left to fend for herself after Collins's family moved out of a Galloway home that lacks all utilities, including air conditioning.
Collins, 23, has since given custody of the dog -- which suffers from multiple skin and ear infections -- to Capital Area Humane Society.
Collins is scheduled to be arraigned on the charges in July.
