Trooper: Speed Was Factor in Deadly Teen Crash
VIOLET TOWNSHIP (Jen French)—A Pickerington teen is dead and his two cousins are in the hospital after a car crash Friday morning. Troopers say the driver just got his license.
Around 10:30 a.m., troopers say 16-year-old Jacob Jolly was going too fast on Wright Road and lost control. He died at the scene. His two female cousins, ages 15 and 16, were taken to Grant Medical Center. One is in serious condition. The other is in critical.
Wright Road was closed for several hours while the Ohio State Highway Patrol investigated the scene. The exact cause of the accident is still being determined.
Troopers say Jolly crashed into a phone utility pole and split the car in half. All three teens were thrown from the vehicle.
Pickerington High School Central Principal Zack Howard said Jolly was well known by his peers.
“We're going to have our counselors available beginning tomorrow morning at 8:00 am for anyone who needs someone to talk to,” Howard said.
Several of Jolly’s friends and classmates posted their grief on twitter, some saying that they were “praying for the family,” and “rest in peace Jacob.”
