Teen Killed in NW Fairfield Co. Crash
VIOLET TWP (Derek Drake) -- A 16-year-old boy is dead, and another two people are fighting for their lives after an accident just west of Diley Road.
According to the Ohio State Highway patrol, three people were ejected from a vehicle after the driver lost control and struck a pole at the intersection of Schoolhouse Road and Wright Road around 10:30 am on June 28, 2013.
Troopers on scene said the car was split in two from the impact of the crash.
Officials say the driver, Jacob E. Jolly, 16 of Pickerington, died at the scene. The two passengers in the vehicle, Renee N. Farmer, 15, and her sister Janay E. Farmer, 16, both of Columbus, were ejected from the car as well.
The passengers were transported to Grant Medical Center with serious injuries. One of those victims was taken by medical helicopter. Renee is currently listed in critical condition and her sister, Janay, is listed in serious condition.
Troopers said a number of utility lines were knocked down along with the crash and could take hours to clean up and repair the damage.
Wright Road was closed between Diley Road to the east and Bowen Road to the west for hours as Troopers investigated the crash.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol Crash Reconstruction unit believes speed to be a major contributing factor to the crash. They also noted Jolly was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.
Troopers are urging all drivers to travel at the posted speed limit, wear seat belts and not to drink and drive.
The crash remains under investigation.
