Ohio Man Offers Modified Wheelchairs, Free of Charge
GLOUSTER, Ohio (Ashley Yore/Ken Hines) -- A man confined to a wheelchair by a debilitating disease is using the experience as an opportunity to help others in similar situations.
Ken Bussart suffers from primary progressive multiple sclerosis, which forced him into a wheelchair three years ago.
Bussart soon adapted to his new lifestyle, even making modifications to his wheelchair that allowed him to enjoy some of his favorite activities.
“I started meeting other people that are in chairs, and they would see my chair and say, 'oh that looks different' -- well I made it,” he said.
Those positive reactions inspired Bussart to customize wheelchairs for other people, free of charge.
“It’s an inspirational thing to hand somebody a chair,” Bussart said. “It’s my way of giving back. You know, I've had a good life. I've been pretty fortunate with my life.”
Bussart said he has fixed and donated dozens of chairs, but does not keep an exact count.
“One or a thousand, it helped someone," Bussart said. "I think if you put a number on something then it becomes a task, and this isn't a task for me."
If you would like to donate wheelchairs to Bussart, or if you are in need of a chair, you are encouraged to email him at firstname.lastname@example.org.
