Man Hospitalized After House Fire
PERRY TWP (Kellie Hanna) A man is in the hospital after fire ripped through his Worthington Hills home.
The fire broke out just before 4:30 a.m. in a home on Beech Lake Drive.
The homeowner said he was asleep and heard what he thought was someone walking on his roof.
He went outside, and that's when he saw flames shooting from the garage.
He went back inside to wake his daughter and son up.
They got out along with the family's dog, but the son went back in to search for the family cat.
He was overcome with smoke and had to break a window to escape.
He was transported to OSU's Wexner Medical Center where he's listed in stable condition suffering from smoke inhalation.
The entire home was damaged by the fire.
The homeowner says he does have smoke detectors but didn't hear them go off.
He admits the batteries may have been old.
Firefighters had to use wet towels around their necks and heads to stay cool because of the humidity and sticky conditions.
No word on what caused the fire. Crews will be going through the home today to determine a possible cause.
