Columbus Toddler Dies After Being Found Unresponsive in Sleeping Bag

COLUMBUS (Ken Hines/Tara Morgan) -- A toddler died Monday evening at Nationwide Children's Hospital after being found unresponsive inside a sleeping bag in an East Side apartment.

Homicide detectives are involved in the investigation at the Cornerstone Crossing apartment complex on Lonsdale Pl. S. where the child was found.

Investigators are working to determine what caused the child's death.

The Franklin County Coroner says she would have been called to the scene had it been suspicious but will treat it as such until the cause is determined by autopsy.

A neighbor said a resident who lives at the complex called children's protective services in mid-June to report an incident involving the toddler's family, though that information has not been confirmed by police.

An autopsy is expected to be performed on Wednesday, at the earliest.
