Muskingum Co. Woman Pleads Guilty to Role in Sons' Camping Trip Deaths

ZANESVILLE (Ken Hines) -- A mother pleaded guilty to child endangering on Monday to avoid a second trial for the deaths of her young sons during a 2011 camping trip.

Kasey Klein was sentenced to 3 years in prison with credit for 651 days served for failing to properly care for her sons, Ayden Cecil, 3, and Anthony Tullius, 2, during a camping trip in Muskingum County.

Cecil and Tullius wandered away from the campsite while Klein and her husband, Richard, slept in a neighboring tent. The boys are each believed to have drowned in a nearby river, though Tullius's body was not found.

Klein and her husband were convicted for their roles in the children's deaths during a joint trial in 2012, but those convictions was later thrown out when it was determined the defendants should be tried separately.

Richard Klein was acquitted of all charges during his June retrial.
