Drugs, Guns, Cash Seized in Franklin Co. Bath Salts Sweep
FRANKLIN COUNTY (Lisa Rantala) – The Franklin County Sheriff’s department made 20 arrests in a three-store drug sweep over the past week culminating in the biggest bath salts bust in county history.
A group of federal agents and local officers raided Schrock Road Drive Thru on Schrock Rd. on Wednesday. The Family Market and Deli on West Park Ave. and Smoke n Shop on Sullivant Ave. were also part of the sweep. Evidence seized from the three businesses included thousands of packages of synthetic drugs, several guns and over $40,000 in cash.
The sweep was part of the nationwide “Operation Synergy” organized by the Drug Enforcement administration.
“I don't know when they're going to get it. It's confusing me,” Franklin County Sheriff Zack Scott said. “Don't sell it. It's bad. A lot of money is involved. It's dangerous to sell and it's illegal.”
The investigation into the businesses started months ago and included undercover officers buying bath salts from employees, according to Sheriff Scott.
The 20 arrested included at least two store owners, whose bond was set at $100,000.
Two men working at the Schrock Road Drive Thru on Thursday said they were friends with the owner and were helping him out while he was in jail.
The Family Market & Deli and Smoke n Shop were not open Thursday.
