Police: Columbus Barber Student Charged with Store Robbery

COLUMBUS (Ken Hines) -- A barber college student who is suspected in a string of recent crimes is behind bars after he was arrested Thursday for a robbery at a West Side store.

Anthony Waters is charged with aggravated robbery in connection with an afternoon theft at Family Dollar on W. Broad St. on June 3.

Police said Waters pushed the store's manager on to a chair during the robbery, and implied he was carrying a gun as he demanded cash.

Waters is suspected of involvement in at least four similar robberies in Columbus. Investigators cited his lengthy criminal history during a Friday arraignment, during which a judge set Waters's bail at $250,000.

"The defendant is a repeat violent offender," Columbus Officer Ron Jacobs said in court. "The defendant has a multi-state criminal history."

A friend of Waters's family said the suspected robber was nearing graduation from Ohio State Barber School, where he maintained a 3.5 grade-point average.
