Footage of Alleged Abuse Released in Ashland Enslavement Case

ASHLAND, Ohio (Ben Garbarek/Ken Hines) -- Investigators have released footage of an Ohio mother being forced by her captors to beat her daughter during two years of enslavement.

The FBI said the four suspects charged in the case made the victim harm her daughter on camera so they would have leverage in the event of police involvement.

Jordie Callahan, Jessica Hunt, Daniel Brown, and Dezerah Silsby are in police custody, charged with enslaving the adult victim and her child. Silsby turned herself in Wednesday, and made her first court appearance Thursday afternoon.

The FBI said the victim was forced to do manual labor for two years inside an apartment off Main St. in Ashland. Pit bulls, a Burmese python, and an iguana were also used to threaten the woman, who is mentally and physically disabled, according to investigators.

Police said they only learned about the situation after the victim stole a candy bar and pleaded with an officer to take her to jail.

An attorney for one of the suspects claims the allegations are false, saying the victim lived at the apartment, and was free to go whenever she wanted.
