Mansfield Man Charged with Animal Cruelty

MANSFIELD -- (Adam Aaro) A Mansfield man is charged with animal cruelty after several kittens were found malnourished and trapped inside a plastic bag. Richland Humane Society officials say they got a report Tuesday of a man who had allegedly killed a cat in public and dropped the body on the side of the road near the corner of Dillon and Hanna Roads.

A witness reportedly caught video of 53-year-old Kenneth Fugett killing the cat. When police and humane officials got there, they found the dead cat and another one alive roaming nearby. They also discovered a plastic bag.

"When we opened it up there were four kittens inside about 4 weeks old," said Melissa Houghton with the Richland Humane Society. "Whoever did it, didn't intend for the kittens to get out alive."

The kittens were taken to the Richland Humane Society were they were cleaned up and prepared to see a vet the next day. All of them were underweight and suffered a myriad of issues, but officials say they're expected to be OK and ready for adoption in the future.
