Pickerington Boy Dies After Falling Into Hot Tub
PICKERINGTON (Ken Hines/Ben Garbarek) -- A young child died at Nationwide Children's Hospital on Monday evening after falling into a hot tub at a condo complex.
Police said the two-year-old boy was found in the hot tub at 1137 Brookview Circle in Pickerington.
Two officers tried to give the boy CPR when they first arrived on the scene. Investigators are not sure how long the boy may have been in the water.
Police say the boy's parents were there when he slipped into the water.
The boy's death hits especially close to home for neighbor Rick Harvey. He had a close call in the same pool complex with his three year-old son Ryan just last week.
"It only takes a second," Harvey said. "I walked away for a second and (Ryan) jumped in and luckily somebody was there. That's why it hits even closer to home. Scared me. I was very fortunate and lucky somebody was there to see it happen even thought I was right next to him when it happened."
Pickerington Police said this is the first call they've gotten this summer about a child drowning. They said this is a reminder for all parents.
"If you have a child around a pool, a hot tub, anything like that, please keep an eye on them," said Sgt. Tod Cheney.
There's no fence around the hot tub. There's only a fence around the entire pool area. Police don't believe a lifeguard was on duty.
