New Albany H.S. Honors Veterans with New Football Field

NEW ALBANY (Ken Hines) -- A new central Ohio field will be dedicated to veterans on Friday as high school football kicks off across the state.

Veteran's Field at New Albany High School's Eagle Stadium was funded by the public with the stipulation that those who have served in the U.S. armed forces be provided with free admission to the venue's events.

Army veteran Neal O'Brien and his son were on-hand to celebrate the dedication of the new field.

"If there's one think I hope, [it] is that New Albany teams, when they play on this field, will be compelled to go the extra yard, and to make the extra effort to give," said O'Brien, who served two tours of duty in Afghanistan.

Veteran and New Albany native Ronda Anderson appreciates the school boosters' effort to thank veterans for their service.

"The message is, we respect you, honor you. We know you service is much greater," Anderson said.

The field's $600,000 cost was covered through a four year fundraising effort.
