Police Take Children, Seize Drugs from "Filthy" Galion Home
GALION (Carol Luper/Ken Hines) -- A mother was arrested Thursday, and her children were placed in foster care, after a drug raid at a home that was described by police as "filthy" and "disgusting."
Rachel Schwier was charged with drug possession and child endangerment following the raid, during which Galion police officers seized, what they believe to be, crack cocaine, marijuana, and synthetic marijuana.
Schwier's two children (ages 3 and 1) were found running around the home naked, according to officers, who said the house was filled with trash and feces.
"We had information that it was going to be dirty, and that there were kids living there, but we had no idea it was going to be this bad," Galion detective Eric Bohach said. "In 12 years this is the worst house, by far, I've ever been in."
Schwier's children are often seen outside without clothing, according to a neighbor who is concerned for the children's safety if they are eventually returned to their mother.
"The oldest one has probably fallen out of [a first floor] window 10 times in the last two weeks, most of which he was butt naked."
A judge has set Schwier's bail amount at $100,000.
