New Runway Unveiled at Port Columbus
COLUMBUS (Kellie Hanna) -- Officials at Port Columbus International Airport are dedicating the new south runway
The new runway represents the largest capital project in the airport's history.
It is almost two miles long and will allow for simultaneous takeoffs and landings.
Board of Commissioners President, John O'Grady, is expected to speak at the event Thursday, along with Michael Huerta, administrator of the FAA.
The Federal Aviation Administration funded over 60 percent of the project's cost. This was a three year, $140 million project.
The former south runway, which includes sections of original 1928 pavement, will be converted to a taxiway after the new runway opens.
