New Information About Two Men Found in Burning Car
COLUMBUS (James Jackson) -- We have new details tonight about two men, whose bodies were found in a burning car. Columbus police are calling the crime a homicide. The vehicle went up in flames on Forest Creek Drive, in Columbus, Friday morning.
Sharon Webb has lived in the complex for three years and says her family is moving as soon as possible. She says she came outside yesterday and saw the car on fire right by her apartment. "It's kind of scary. It's a little bit you ow too close for comfort and we used to have security around here and hey said they didn't have it in the budget anymore," Webb said.
The Franklin County Coroner says 44 year-old Jose Alivez and 43 year-old Richard Gill were in the car and both died from being hit in the head. She says it appears they both passed away before they were put in the car. Webb says she's noticed that vehicle in the complex before. "I've seen it probably about a dozen times. Just driving back and forth. Yes, in and out," Webb said.
William Ireland lives just feet from where the car went up in flames and left minutes before it happened. He says the area is notorious for trouble, but nothing this serious has ever taken place here. "If this kind of stuff is continually going on then you start to wonder is this the right place for me," Ireland said.
The coroner says the next step is getting the victims' toxicology reports to determine if there were any drugs in their systems. Police say there's no new information at this time.
A candle light vigil will be held tomorrow night at 6, at the Forest Creek apartment complex.
