Kids Attend Workshops Aimed at Reducing Violence in E. Columbus
COLUMBUS (Steve Levine/Ken Hines) - East Columbus kids are fighting back with paintbrushes after a recent spike of violence in their neighborhood.
Dozens of children are taking part this week in several workshops aimed at keeping their streets safe.
Theres a lot of fear, particularly the children, neighbor Stacee Green said. They are concerned with their safety, and safety of family members as well.
Kids who participated in the workshops painted messages of peace and hope on t-shirts, and heard from several of Ohios Tuskegee Airmen.
The youngsters also received free cameras and dance lessons.
The anti-crime program comes weeks after residents in the Driving Park area saw a spike in violence. In July, four homicides occurred in the normally quiet neighborhood in a matter of weeks, including the fatal shooting of a store clerk during a robbery.
