Police Arrest Madison Township Man for Multiple Burglaries

MADISON TOWNSHIP (Jen French/Ken Hines) -- Police believe a string of burglaries is the work of a man who had offered to mow the lawns of residents in the neighborhood where his crimes took place.

Daniel Collins was arrested on August 13 after police found several stolen items in the back seat of his car, according to Madison Township investigators.

Collins has since been linked to at least two burglaries in a Southeast Franklin Co. neighborhood over a week's span, including incidents on Roddell Road (August 5) and Newport Road (August 13).

Neighborhood resident Pam Rheyne's television and Xbox, along with her child's piggy bank, were stolen from her home during the rash of burglaries. She believes Collins offered to mow his neighbors' lawns in order to gain information about possible crimes.

"He's been going around asking if they want their grass cut, to scope out, what I believe, to know how to get in and out of their yard," Rheyne said.

Collins was transferred to the Franklin County Jail on Thursday. He is scheduled to appear in court Friday morning.
