Ohio Senate Committee to Hear Medicaid Plan

COLUMBUS (AP) -- An Ohio Senate committee plans to hear testimony Tuesday on a new analysis that projects the state could save money and cover more people by expanding Medicaid.

State lawmakers have been trying to find common ground on Medicaid since Republican Gov. John Kasich proposed an extension of the federal-state program in February.

GOP leaders pulled it from the state budget, and the issue has yet to gain traction in the Legislature.

A state Senate committee is scheduled to hear more about the Medicaid projections from the Health Policy Institute of Ohio.

Democratic state Sen. Capri Cafaro cited the analysis in her proposal to extend the Medicaid program and cap its cost growth at a roughly 3.5 percent rate, compared to the current rate of 7.2 percent a year.
