Central Ohio Woman Says Brother Died After Being Hit With A Bat
ROSS COUNTY (James Jackson) -- Tonight, a Ross County family mourns the loss of a 39 year-old man, who they say died, after being hit with a baseball bat. They tell ABC 6 it happened at a home, on Wildflower Lane, early Saturday morning.
Jean Thomas breaks down taking about her son, Patrick Thomas. She got a phone call overnight saying he was in the hospital. His sister, Regina Thomas, tells ABC 6 he died, after being hit with a bat, at the home.
"I'll never see my baby. I'll never get to smile. I'll never get to hear, 'hello mom. What are we having for dinner," Thomas said.
But, Jennifer Elliott lives in the Wildflower Lane home and has a different take on what happened. She says Thomas barged in with a plastic gun and a bat, hit her and tried to rob her. That's when she says a neighbor grabbed him and they fought on the porch. "He put his legs around Patrick's legs. Didn't choke him, but put both of his arms around his neck," Elliott said.
Neighbors say Thomas passed out. Elliott says she tried to revive him. Thomas was taken to a hospital, where family members say he died. It's heartbreaking story for his mother, who says her son never got to meet his 6 month-old granddaughter. "Today she shows up at my house. So I'm seeing things that he should have seen. But he'll never see it." Thomas said.
The Ross County Sheriff's Office is investigating the case. They're calling Thomas' death suspicious. ABC 6 called investigators, but they weren't available to talk. Thomas' mother says she was looking forward to celebrating her son's 40th birthday on Christmas day.
