$100K for Couple Accused in Shaken Baby Case

COLUMBUS (Kellie Hanna) -- A mother and father accused in a shaken baby case faced a judge Tuesday morning.

Gianna Margiotta and Ryan Kelley are both charged with felony endangering children after their 7-week old baby suffered brain damage.

The judge issued a $100,000 bail amount for each Margiotta and Kelley.

The parents were arrested Monday, four months after police started a shaken baby syndrome investigation.

According to a search warrant, a detective was called to Nationwide Children's Hospital for 7-week-old little girl named Maria who showed respiratory distress, poor feeding and seizure symptoms.

A CAT scan revealed multiple skull fractures and bleeding on the brain, and the child was placed on life support.

Police say Margiotta and Kelley did not admit to intentionally hurting the baby girl but claimed they dropped her in the bathtub.

Ryan Kelley's sister spoke to ABC 6/FOX 28 reporter Lisa Rantala and said her brother tried to get the baby help immediately.

The baby is off life support now and is with a foster family.  Ryan Kelley is reportedly still fighting for his innocence and for sole custody of his daughter.

Police and hospital officials say the injuries are so severe that she won't recover to live a normal life and will likely need a feeding tube for the rest of her life.
