Groveport Madison District Cuts Busing for High School Students

COLUMBUS (Ken Hines) -- Just a week before Groveport Madison students return to class, district officials have cut high school busing services for the coming year.

The decision follows the failure of a levy in May, and leaves parents scrambling to make sure approximately 1600 students can get to school each day.

Groveport Madison administrators are working with police and parents to develop a safe, efficient plan to transport the students to school without buses.

"[We are] talking to parents about what they can do to come together and make a plan," district spokesperson Dee Copas said.

Any possible solution will likely be complicated by a lack of sidewalks and bike paths for many of the district's students.

"It makes everything harder on us," tenth grade student Kevin Baez said. "Now we gotta worry about getting to school."

May's levy failed by just ten votes.
