Dublin Police Arrest 3 in Hotel Scam
DUBLIN (Ben Garbarek) -- Police arrested three people Wednesday, that they say were part of a scheme to scam several hotels around Columbus.
Police are calling Princess Harmon, Douglas Hart and Andrea Tackett career criminals. Investigators said Harmon and Tackett would call a hotel and pretend to be a manager. They would tell someone working at the hotel that a man would be stopping by for a cash refund. Then police said Hart would walk in, get the fake refund and leave.
The trio allegedly got away with this scheme at the Extended Stay America on Tuttle Crossing Blvd. and then tried the same scam next door at the Holiday Inn Express. Police said a clerk at that hotel didnt buy their story and refused to hand over the money. She called police and officers arrested the three nearby.
They were kind of on our radar because its an unusual scam, said Dublin Police Chief Heinz von Eckartsberg. Its just a story we hadnt heard in the past so it stood out.
This also apparently isnt the first time this crew has tried to pull this off. They were arrested trying to do the same thing at a Shell gas station off Perimeter Loop in November last year. Police suspect theyve been trying this at hotels all over Columbus.
Hart is charged with theft by deception, attempted theft and obstructing official business. Harmon and Tackett are charged with complicity of theft.
