Shoplifting Suspect Hurts Little Girl While Fleeing Whitehall Walmart

WHITEHALL (Ken Hines) -- Police are searching for a shoplifter who ran over a little girl while running out of Walmart following a crime.

Five-year-old Marely Martinez needed seven stitches to close a head wound after being knocked to the ground by an unidentified suspect at the Whitehall store.

"He [threw] me," Marely said. "I hit my head on the rack."

Store security footage shows Walmart security workers confronting the suspect inside the store on Sunday.

"He's very cooperative at first, but then he gets more agitated," Whitehall police officer Dan Kelso.

The suspect eventually fled from the security officers, making no attempt to stop as he ran over Marely, who was shopping for school supplies with her mother.

"He runs right over her," Kelso said. "It's like a linebacker hitting a person."

If caught, the suspect is likely to face at least one felony charge because of his violent exit from the store.

Anyone with information about the suspect and/or crime is encouraged to contact the Whitehall Police Department.
