2 Hospitalized After High Speed Chase with State Troopers
COLUMBUS (Kellie Hanna) -- Two people are recovering in the hospital after a high speed chase and crash in East Columbus.
Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers say they saw an SUV stopped in the middle of Brice Road and Channingway Blvd. just after 2 a.m.
When they went to investigate, the vehicle took off.
The driver went west on I-70, and speeds reached 110 miles per hour.
When the SUV exited onto Hamilton Road, it crashed and flipped onto its side.
The driver was taken to Grant Medical Center with minor injuries. The passenger was ejected and taken to the hospital in critical condition.
Troopers say there may be a third person involved, and they are searching for them.
The ramp from Hamilton Road to I-70 westbound was blocked off until 6 a.m. It reopened just in time for morning rush hour.
The SUV was smashed and completely off the road into the brush and trees by the ramp.
Troopers say drugs and alcohol may have played a factor in the crash. They did find a bottle of vodka and a small bag of marijuana in the crash wreckage.
Troopers say the SUV was not stolen; rather it was a rental.
