Muirfield Fence Fatally Injures Two Deer

DUBLIN (Ken Hines) -- Central Ohioans are calling for the removal of a fence around an iconic central Ohio golf course after two deer were fatally injured while attempting to scale the structure.

Police were forced to euthanize the deer after the animals were injured by the sharp tips of the fence around Muirfield Golf Club.

The fence is scheduled to be removed after October's President's Cup tournament, but that day did not come soon enough for the deer, who were each shot by police because of their extensive injuries.

Club officials said they are working with the city to find a solution to the problems presented by the fence, which has proved to be unpopular among area residents.

"[We're] real excited about the President's Cup, but we're not excited about our neighborhood having seven miles of black metal fence," Mike Bickley said.
