Rail Car Overturnes; South Columbus Residents Evacuated

COLUMBUS (Kellie Hanna) -- A dozen people were evacuated along Hosack Street near Parsons Avenue because of an overturned railroad car.

There is a hazardous materials sign on the back of the overturned car, and it contains a "low grade chemical."

Even though the tanker is not leaking the chemical dozens of residents and even a few businesses have been evacuated.

Crews plan to keep them away from the area most of the afternoon because there is a significant amount of the chemical in the air.

A witness that lives right by the track heard the wheels going through the gravel and skid along the tracks.

He saw the hazardous sign and called 9-1-1 just after 11:30 a.m.

Police and fire crews were on the scene for several hours investigating what might have caused the derailment.
