Neighbors say Traffic Study Causing Crashes
EAST COLUMBUS (Ben Garbarek) -- A car crashed into a home off Kelton Avenue and Bryden Road has neighbors fuming.
The driver isn't believed to be seriously hurt in the latest crash. Neighbors said there have been accidents at this corner nearly every day since a traffic study was started by the City.
"I'm able to watch out my window and just watch people come on Kelton (Avenue) straight through and never stop at the stop sign," said neighbor Elizabeth Hoover-Story.
There used to be a traffic light at the intersection. Now black bags cover the lights while the study is being done. There are stop signs on Kelton Avenue but traffic doesn't stop on Bryden Road.
"It's almost like a routine for me when I get home," said neighbor Karen Dunnagan. "I look out the window because I know there's going to be an accident. It's that bad."
Bryden Road is also a popular bicycle route. Neighbors said people trained for Pelotonia on that route.
Neighbors are afraid someone is going to get seriously hurt by the time the study is over.
"I get real phobic standing here at the corner," Dunnagan said. "I don't know when a car might roll up on this corner. I just don't know. It's just really unsafe right now. Someone has to do something about it."
The crash happened after city offices closed Tuesday. So far we have been unable to get any comment from the City about the traffic study.
