Authorities Offer Reward for Info About Morrow Co. Gun Theft

MARENGO, Ohio (Ken Hines) -- Federal and county agencies are offering a $5000 reward as part of their investigation into a robbery at a Morrow County gun store.

Agents from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) are working with Morrow County deputies to determine who stole an undisclosed number of firearms from S&S Guns on County Road 26 in Marengo between September 8 and 9.

The nature of the theft has led investigators to offer $5000 for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or people responsible for the crime.

"The burglary and theft of firearms from a gun dealer is a very serious crime and a top priority for ATF," said ATF Columbus Field Division Agent Christopher Hyman said. "Having investigated similar cases in the past, we know stolen firearms are often used in furtherance of drug-and-gang-related activities, and are utilized by violent criminals to perpetrate additional crimes."

Anyone with information about the theft is encouraged to contact the ATF crime gun hotline at 1-800-ATF-GUNS, the ATF Columbus Field Office at 614-827-8450, or the Morrow County Sheriff's Office at 419-946-6991. Callers are not required to provide their names.
