Fire Breaks Out in Northeast Columbus Apartment

COLUMBUS (Kellie Hanna) -- Over a dozen firefighters battled an apartment fire at 1526 Franklin Lane in Northeast Columbus.

When crews arrived, there was fire coming from two end units and had engulfed that end of the building.

Those crews called for a 2nd alarm which means they add an entire 2nd crew to help fight the fire.

Crews from Westerville and Worthington assisted Columbus as well.

The American Red Cross is helping ten adults and 20 children who have been affected by this fire.

One woman was taken to the hospital with non life-threatening injuries.

Firefighters say it is because of good Samaritans that everyone made it out of the burning building.

Investigators have determined that the blaze was caused by unattended food cooking in the apartment's kitchen. The fire caused approximately $100,000 in damages.

Maintenance workers for the apartment complex say they think fire walls helped to keep the fire from spreading to more units.
