Mt. Vernon Boy Can't Wake Drunk Mom, Calls 911

MOUNT VERNON (Jen French/Ken Hines) -- A mother is facing child endangering charges after her four-year-old son called 911 to report that she had passed out after drinking alcohol.

The young boy reported his mother's condition to a dispatcher at approximately 5 a.m. on August 21, according to Mount Vernon police.

The dispatcher remained on the phone with the boy for nearly 20 minutes while police traveled to the family's S. Jackson St. home, where they found Christine Lang asleep.

Officers were forced to use smelling salts to revive Lang after several attempts to awaken the 40-year-old mother failed.

Officers administered a breathalyzer test to Lang, whose blood alcohol level was recorded at .293, according to investigators.

The four-year-old boy who called 911, as well as Lang's six-year-old son, were taken to a relative's home after their mother's arrest.

Lang admitted to ABC 6/FOX 28 that she had been drinking the night before her son called 911, but claimed she was unusually tired because of a lack of sleep the previous night.

Lang was also charged with child endangering in January, 2012. Family members said her children have been returned to the home.
