Business Owners Seek Value in Franklinton

COLUMBUS (Maria Durant/Ken Hines) -- Business owners are moving into abandoned buildings and lots in Franklinton, breathing new life into the neighborhood.

Orange Barrel Media officials broke ground on their new headquarters Wednesday on N. Hartford Ave. The advertising company will eventually be housed in a new 20,000 square foot, $7 million building.

"Were excited to get in and continue the momentum thats here in Franklinton," Orange Barrel's Pete Scantland said. "The visibility couldnt be better for us.

Developers will incorporate three existing silos already located on the site into the business's plans, according to Scantland.

The owner of existing Franklinton business Wood.Metal.Art will move his gallery to a larger venue on McKinley Ave. in October.

"It's still economical to be down here," Patrick Roberts said. "We're lucky. It's severed us pretty well."
