Vietnam Vet's Remains Found After 45 Years MIA
COLUMBUS (Ben Garbarek) -- The remains of a Vietnam veteran missing in action for 45 years have been found.
Air Force Colonel Francis Jay McGouldrick's remains were found in a remote jungle in Laos. His plane collided with another plane in 1968.
His family has spent nearly half a century wondering what happened to him.
"It was hard to continue to hope," said his daughter Mitch Guess.
The news is bittersweet for his family. They said they still had a small glimmer of hope their father would be found alive.
"It's good on the one side (that he's been found) and sad on the other," said daughter Megan Genheimer. "It's an answer after 45 years."
McGouldrick had four daughters. The oldest one was just 11 when he left for Vietnam.
"My whole life I guess I never thought there would be an answer (to what happened to him)," said his youngest daughter Marri Petrucci. "It has been my whole life."
His family said finding his remains after all these years should give hope to the families of other soldiers missing in action.
"Don't give up hope," Guess said. "Someday your answers might come."
