Columbus Red Cross Volunteers Train for Patient Tracking
COLUMBUS (Ken Hines) -- Red Cross volunteers participated in a training exercise Wednesday designed to improve the process of notifying the loved ones of disaster victims.
Central Ohio volunteers traveled to 13 area hospitals, where they tracked down fictitious patients in order to gather information that would -- after a real disaster -- be relayed to victims' family members.
"Our goal is to help eliminate the angst that people would feel if they don't know where there loved one is," volunteer Cindy King said.
In the event of a real disaster, information gathered during patient tracking would be available online and via phone.
