Halloween Prank Alarms Passersby
COLUMBUS (Lu Ann Stoia) Reports of a shooting victim on a front porch sent police officers rushing to the scene. Officers expecting to find a body found a Halloween prank instead.
The east side neighborhood used to be nicknamed Oozie Alley because there was so much gunfire. So it is not too surprising somebody called police when they saw something deadly scary.
Marcus Randall, 48, put up the display on Sunday in the front yard of his home on Virginia Lee Court. Randall used his own jeans and hoodie to make the victim and a plastic milk jug for the dummys head. He used some stage blood he picked up at a nearby costume shop and crafted a shooting scene, complete with fake gun and lots of yellow caution tape.
I was just having fun, Randall said. Its admittedly scary and gruesome. Its just a practical joke.
Five cruisers showed up blaring their sirens, but officers quickly learned it was only a display. One officer said he thinks the homeowner went too far and is concerned it could induce panic.
Randall said he has a big bucket of candy ready for kids coming to his house on Beggars Night.
I will give them treats in exchange for a scare, he said.
He plans to take down the display right after Halloween to avoid creeping out more passersby and possible calls to 911.
