Man Fights For His Life, After Being Hit By Stray Bullet
EAST COLUMBUS (James Jackson) -- Tonight, a Central Ohio neighborhood is on edge, after a man was shot in the head by a stray bullet. It happened at the Sterling Court Apartments, in East Columbus.
Crime scene tape blocks off part of Sterling Court Apartments. There's a hole in the wall, where Columbus police say a bullet came through, hitting Yusuf Mohammed in his living room, while he watched TV. Our cameras were feet away, when investigators found the shell casing.
Dystaney Land heard the shot. She lives in the complex and was standing outside, when the gun was fired. "It's kind of creepy knowing I have a one year-old daughter that could be any place at the same time. You know. It's kind of scary," Land said.
Cassandra Rogers says she was going to move to Cleveland and this will no doubt speed up her plans "I know more people out there like I'm trying to get a fresh start in a new city and not deal with stray bullets," Rogers said.
Meanwhile, investigators dealt with at least three people who lived in the building. Police placed them in their cruisers for questioning, trying to find out more about what happened there. But, so far no arrests have been made. Police say they don't know if the shooter meant to shoot Mohammed or if he was the victim of a random act of violence.
