New Information on Fire at Central Ohio Business
NORTHEAST COLUMBUS (James Jackson) -- We're learning more tonight about a fire that ripped through a Central Ohio business, Friday evening. Crews cleaned up for hours Saturday at Burton Metal Finishing, on Woodland Avenue.
Columbus fire fighters say it started in the back of the building. While they wouldn't confirm the cause, the owner says he believes it was a compressor out back.
Ann Perkins lives across the street and heard emergency sirens arriving at the building. She says she wasn't worried about the fire coming near her home. "It didn't really scare me because it wasn't my house. It was just the building across the street and I figured it was going to keep it over there across the street. So it didn't bother me," Perkins said.
Fire fighters say the fire caused $150,000 to $200,000 dollars of damage. The owner says it could take months before his business is back up and running, leaving his 33 employees wondering what's next. "It makes me feel sad because some children's going neglected. Some mouths is not going to be fed," Perkins said.
Employees are scheduled to come in Monday to get more information about what's going on at the business.
The owner was inside the building when the fire started. He tells ABC 6/FOX 28 he's okay.
