Bed Bugs Return to Newark High School
NEWARK (Jen French/Ken Hines) -- Tiny invaders have become a big problem for Newark High students and parents as bed bugs continue to plague the school.
An estimated 100 students left the school in September, when the pests first made their presence felt.
"She wants to be home schooled," Kathy Baker said of her daughter. "She's been begging me and begging me to home school her.
The bugs were again spotted in the school on October 21 and 22, when they were discovered hanging on to the backpacks of two students.
"My concern is my child picking it up on their clothes or book bags and bringing them into my house, parent Samantha Howard said.
School officials are working with the Licking County Health Department to get rid of the bugs, using methods such as deep cleanings and sticky traps -- but not chemical spray, out of concerns for its possible effects on students.
