Vigil Held for Woman Killed While Jogging in Park
COLUMBUS (James Jackson) -- Family and friends payed tribute to a Central Ohio woman killed, while jogging in a park. A coroner's report says Jane Juergens was stabbed more than two dozen times, in Ridgewood Park, Sunday night.
Juergens loved everything about the park, said her family. That's why relatives, friends and neighbors came there Saturday to remember her.
A violinist played the song, Let There Be Peace on Earth, in the background. It was a fitting song for a neighborhood calling for peace in their park and vowing to take it back.
"Jane was an individual. She was part of our community and as you have shown up tonight, you're all individuals," said one participant.
Police arrested 16 year-old Jordan Stewart for allegedly killing Jane there. He lived in a group home nearby. But, Saturday night was about healing. Jane's son, Andy Juergens, shared a few kind words about his his mother. "She had the best smile and it was something that was just absolutely contagious. You couldn't escape it. You couldn't forget it," Juergens said.
The park, Andy says, is a place he'll never forget. It's the place where his mom's day began. "Whether it was walking the path one time or running it twice or any combination of those things. She would come here. Do that," Juergens said. Now, a community stands together with a message of hope.
Tonight, Juergens' alleged killer, Jordan Stewart, remains locked up on a murder charge.
