Vandals Target Christopher Columbus Statue at Columbus State Community College
COLUMBUS (Tara Morgan) -- Columbus State Community College is trying to find the vandals that damaged the Christopher Columbus statue on campus.
For a second day, the 17 foot tall statue became a target.
On Columbus Day, someone left an anti-Columbus sign on the marble statue.
Then early Tuesday morning, a school spokesman says someone wrote four words, including coward and imperialist, in black ink or paint.
"I knew there was a lot of anti Columbus feeling I just didn't think they'd be dumb enough to go and write it on a statue," said student Deshawn Isaac.
The college brought in a private contractor for the cleanup to make sure it's done properly without causing any more damage.
Isaac says there are much better and more legal ways to let your opinion be known.
"Yeah you're saying oh he's a destroyer he did this he did that you just destroyed a statue you did get your message out but you really kind of made yourself and your viewpoint look stupid," said Isaac.
Campus security officers are looking at surveillance video from the student common area.
