Woman Alerts Neighbors During House Fire

SOUTH COLUMBUS (Jen French) An early morning house fire prompted a neighbor to not only call 911, but bang on the door to wake everyone up inside.

Columbus fire investigators said it started in the garage, but spread to the back of the home quickly.

Teareen Bailey has known her neighborson East Stewart Avenue for more than a decade. She said she heard popping noises before 6:00 AM and looked outside.

"I called 911 and went across the street to wake them up, Bailey said. "I was worried at first because usually she has her grandkids in there."

Bailey banged on the door. Two men who were passing through the neighborhood also started knocking until someone answered.

Carolyn Scott-Brown and her two sons woke up and got out of the home safely.

"It was her voice that really registered in my head, Scott-Brown said, displaced resident.

The fire was put out in minutes. The cause is still under investigation.
