Officers Look for Suspect Who Shot Man in Backyard

GALLOWAY (Ben Garbarek/Kate Liebers) - - Police are looking for the gunman who shot a man near a school Thursday afternoon.

The shooting happened on a Charring Cross Street residence. Kendra Wade, 40, who was in the backyard, was shot in the leg, police reported.

He was transported to the hospital in stable conditions.

Nortan Middle School, which is behind the house, was briefly on lockdown.

Neighbors said cops swarmed the scene not long after the shooting happened.

The cops were kind of rushing to the back of the house, said Alicia Wolfzorn, who lives two doors down from Wade. I walked around and when I could see the school and I saw the cop cars coming to the school, one of the cops had gotten out with a shotgun."

Officers are unsure of what led to the shooting and said there was no sign of forced entry.

No arrests have been made. Police are trying to determine how many people may have been involved.
