Police Release Name of Woman Found Dead Inside Apartment
WEST COLUMBUS (James Jackson) -- Columbus police release the name of the woman killed at a West side apartment. Her body was found at a complex on Sullivant Avenue. Investigators tell ABC 6/FOX 28 they do have leads, but nothing they're ready to give out at this time. They've identified the woman as 22 year-old Callie Van Meter.
Just minutes after finding out her best friend, Callie, was found dead, Corinne Jackson breaks down on the phone. "She's been touching to my heart. Real good. Make you laugh you know. Got a good heart," Jackson said.
Police say a woman called them around 6:15 Friday night, saying there was a dead woman inside an apartment, on the third floor. That woman turned out to be Van Meter. Investigators later ruled her death a homicide. "I've never known her to be in any trouble or to do anything but to help," Jackson said.
Jackson knew Van Meter for almost a year. They were neighbors in an East Mound Street apartment complex, until she moved out a couple months ago. "She had graduated from school. She had eager to live life and learn. She was a young mom. Had a daughter. Her daughter changed her world," Jackson said.
Now, her friends say their world has changed. They comfort each other, outside of Van Meter's old home, wondering what happened.
Although the coroner has ruled Van Meter's death a homicide, it's still unclear how she died.
