Mother of Murdered Pregnant Daughter Speaks Out
COLUMBUS (Maria Durant) -- A heartbroken mother broke her silence following the murder of her pregnant daughter.
Lori Ballman spoke to the media for the first time this week since a New Albany doctor admitted to giving her daughter and unborn granddaughter a fatal dose of heroin.
Ballman said watching Ali Salim in court last month was tough. She said she cried and got angry.
"It just hurt me so much that he did not show remorse in court," Ballman said.
Ballman's daughter Deanna was found in the backseat of her car in August 2012 in Delaware County.
Salim, accepting a plea deal, admitted to the murder in October. The victim had answered a Craigslist ad that Salim posted.
Before Salim is sentenced, Ballman wants her daughter's friends to write to the court about her daughter.
"I want them to share their stories, to let the judge know how kind Deanna was and how she touched so many lives."
Ballman said she plans to speak in court during the sentencing.
The hearing is scheduled for next month.
