New Documents Reveal Multiple Affairs at Fire Station
SOUTHWEST COLUMBUS (James Jackson/Ben Garbarek) -- New information is coming out in the sex probe involving a Columbus firefighter and shocking new details about the firefighter's behavior.
Marc Cain, is accused of having sex with a then 18 year-old girl, at Station 17 from September 2011 to this March. Cain is charged with dishonesty, insubordination, and failure of good behavior.
A report says Cain had sex with the teen while on duty, gave her firehouse security codes and let her ride along on medic and rescue runs.
The Columbus Fire Professional Standards Unit questioned the firefighter back in May. According to reports, he described how his relationship with the woman started "as a close family friend, but developed into an intimate partner." He said, "I got more of a relationship of boyfriend, girlfriend-type thing."
Cain denies having sex at the firehouse, but testimony from the woman involved said he told her, "no one knows what goes on behind closed doors."
When asked about giving her the security code, he denied that too, saying she must have gotten it from his wife. But, after six months of questioning fellow firefighters and Cain himself, the investigation says otherwise.
The woman apparently involved in the affair said she feels Cain took advantage of her.
"I don't think he ever intended for anymore more than just a sexual partner," she said. "He didn't intend for me to be anything more than that."
Firefighters testified Cain told them the woman was like a daughter to him. He would apparently tell them he was mentoring her because she comes from a broken home.
The report from CFD's internal investigation said the two ended their sexual relationship this spring, but Cain apparently told the woman he drives by her house frequently to see if she's home.
The woman's dad launched this investigation. Cain apparently told the woman her dad should leave him alone and be happy she isn't pregnant. He's also allegedly threatened to have someone follow her parents and give them a DUI.
The report said she's taken a polygraph test, but Cain has refused to do the same.
Fire Chief Greg Paxton will decide what happens to Cain. It's unclear when he will make a ruling on it.
The report also details a second alleged affair at Station 17. A former battalion chief is accused of having an affair with a female firefighter behind closed doors. A firefighter testified that this affair and the alleged one involving Cain are "identical".
That battalion chief has since been transferred to another station.
